In the 1960s, Paul-André Chopard, the last watchmaker of the Chopard family, was faced with a sad fact: none of his sons wanted to succeed his father. Paul-André Chopard wondered what to do, but fate led him to meet Karl Scheufele. The third generation of the Scheufele family is famous for its jeweler and watchmaking profession in Pforzheim, Germany. At that time, Karl Scheufele was on his way to buy back the companies that are losing money in the marketplace to expand the company. Fate was arranged, in 1963 Paul-André Chopard agreed to transfer the Chopard firm to the Scheufele family.
Today, Chopard retains a family-style management, Karl-Scheufele and his wife Karin take over the management of the company and two sons and daughters Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and Caroline-Gruosi serve as co-chairs. Unless they are in Geneva for important gatherings, in their spare time family members always take the time to tour Chopard’s stores around the world. The first Chopard store opened in Hong Kong in 1983. Up to now, Chopard has 78 stores displaying and selling products, 121 retail points worldwide with Chopard’s latest designs.
